A focus on total customer satisfaction has transformed a former import business into one of Turkey’s leading companies in the field of thermal transfer ribbons and labelling. Founded in 1974 and specialising in imports, product distribution and representation, the business grew rapidly in response to strong economic growth. From this business, the company Opet Dis Ticaret AS was established 10 years later.

For over 20 years, Opet has been representing, marketing and providing services for the products of major international companies and groups. Its main focus is on the automotive, textile and garment industries. Today its main interests include machinery sales and marketing, conversion and labels.

Although operating in a strongly competitive market, Opet does not compete on price but on the quality of its services and products. The company’s definition of total customer satisfaction includes direct marketing, after-sales service and customer support. It is strongly service-oriented and has adopted a business policy of delivering solutions to its customers.

Key markets

Traditionally the textile industry has been the mainstay of the business, but nowadays the automotive industry is increasing in importance. This is due to the growing number of automotive manufacturers establishing plants in Turkey. Another growth segment is aerospace, largely as a result of the F-16s fighter planes under construction at plants in Ankara. The importance of the electronics industry is also expected to grow.

Slitting development

A milestone in the development of the company was reached in 1999 when it transferred to new premises and made a start on slitting thermal transfer ribbons. During the following years this conversion business was developed and future growth secured by investing in the latest technology, such as mini jumbo slitters, as well as infrastructure and manpower. From its new premises in the eastern part of Istanbul, Opet is well placed to fulfil its customers’ needs in terms of size, quantity and quality.

The new premises accommodate a test laboratory to monitor the jumbo rolls and slitted ribbons. A well established testing laboratory is essential in order to guarantee quality. In addition to offering customers a free consultancy service, ribbon quality control tests, physical and chemical tests, barcode printing, barcode reading and verifying tests are also carried out.

Ribbon technology expertise

Opet sells a wide range of Thermal Transfer Ribbons to suit most applications for all major manufacturers’ printers, including wax, wax/resin, resin and fax thermal ribbons, including Ricoh and Opsys. It is also a major distributor for the range of Avery Dennison thermal transfer barcode printers. Its textile care labels are durable for stone wash, enzyme wash and piece dying.


Global label

In recent years Opet has entered the label printing business with the creation and launch of its own unique Global Label brand. The main business focus is the apparel industry, and the aim is to manufacture and supply identification products through EDI, or other means, for printing tags and labels.

Although a separate brand, Global Label embraces the commercial values of Opet including reliability, customer satisfaction, excellence in service, adoption of a professional attitude and use of the latest technology.

Opet has been involved with electronic media printing and electronic data transfer since it first started providing technical assistance and consultancy to its customers engaged in apparel production.

Its experience throughout this time has helped identify the main causes of errors in labelling as human intervention and poor communication. Through its Global Label Service bureau system, modern technology, such as the internet, electronic data transfer and electronic printing, are used to eliminate any possible human error. This minimises human intervention during the flow of data and maintains a just-in-time delivery of labels, as well as minimising transport costs and avoiding customs paperwork.

Opet is proceeding their knowledge in new markets too.Opet is now focusing in label printing sector as a solution partner with their new distributions.There are several presentations Opet have in Turkish market here are some examples: Lintec Japan ( Self adhesive manufacturers).Lintec’s main philosophy is in nieche market like automotives,whitehouseholds,electronics and other unique constructions.We mainly find the job and do this with our partners.Lintec have thousands of adhesive types that’s why we always have lots of opportunities to find a solutions to our customers.

The other important presentation is ITW Foils Holland.This company is one of the biggest in their sector and doing Hot foils,Coding Foils,Cold Foils,Plastic Foils and Textile Foils.We mainly now in packaging industry and supplying one of the biggest cigarette box producers and also the biggest chewing gum manufacturers.In roll to roll industry we also supply cold and hot foils to our customers and also advise them the new updates in foiling sector.In textile we also have a big potential and because of our stock strength we are always competitive against others.

In Foiling industry we have unique solutions to our customers in application periods.We are representing EAGLE SYSTEMS from USA.Platinium Series Foil Advance System is custom-built to meet our customers specific needs and they do not have to sacrifice their diecutting and stripping capabilities.The foil fitting system fits directly into the stripping section of our customers diecutting machines ( like Bobst and Sanwa).We are supporting our customers together with ITW foils.We built up a new system ( called OPFOIL) and if our customers make an agreement with us we deliver the system free of charge and install their existing machine.So If they sign our agreement, we will support them with Foils and also full service of their machine till the end of the agreement.

Our other segments are machines:Lintec ( UV letterpress semi rotary and full rotary presses), Propheeter USA ( UV and IR Flexo and Ofset machines), Daco Solutions UK ( Slitter rewinders and Inspection machines), Newfoil UK ( Hot Foiling Machines).Last year we sold two big Lintec UV letterpress machines to our customers and also sold some others equipments to support their needs.Nowadays we are focusing RFID solutions and last year we sold one RFID insertion machine to our customers.Now we are having more than four projects all of them RFID related and digital printing.
